2007 Cabarete Classic Results
This year’s Cabarete Classic went off with flying colors, attracting nearly 70 competitors of varying ages and from around the globe. The event included three full days of competition with 12 different categories of freestyle, slalom, and formula racing. Numerous media sources covered the contest, including newspaper, magazine, and television reporters from Santo Domingo and the Dutch island of Curacao. Curacao was also heavily represented on the water, with a team of 12 talented young racers lead by Ingmar Schnitzler and Hilde Tuinbeek competing in the event. Other notable competitors with strong performances included Raul Marquez from Argentina, Antonio Esteban from Santo Domingo, and local boys Samuel Perez and Emilio Muñoz from Cabarete. In the evenings, local restaurants Pomodoro, EZE Bar, Grill 15 Steakhouse, and Voy Voy arranged competitor dinners at special prices. On Sunday night, hundreds of tourists and Dominicans alike turned out for the closing event, which was composed of a prize ceremony held on the beach followed by a high-energy performance by Dominican group La Selección Tipica. Winners walked away with a variety of prizes including sails, masts, booms, harnesses, and other windsurf gear, as well as gift certificates, apparel, and $3,000 US in cash prizes, all donated by our sponsors. The competition was made possible thanks to Ocean One, Millenium, Vela Highwind Center, Ocean Dream, L’Agence Real Estate, Coca-Cola, Sea Horse Ranch, the Windsurf Resort, Danny Steyn Photography, The Dream Project, and all of the other generous sponsors who contributed to the event.
