Event Rules - Cabarete Classic

The Cabarete Classic is first and foremost designed to be a fun event. And because of this it is necessary to have the basic ground rules covered. So here they are. Simple and easy to understand!

All competitors will be required to sign the rules saying that they understand them and will abide by them.

Sail Numbers

The same sail number indicated on the competitor’s registration sheet must be prominently displayed on every sail that the competitor uses during the competition. A competitor using a sail displaying any other number, or an unreadable number, during any heat, will not be scored for that heat.  In addition, competitors in all adult slalom and freestyle divisions are required to display the event sticker and/or the primary sponsor’s sticker above the window of each sail used.

Across the Line Early

If one or two competitors cross the line before the start of the heat, those competitors will be

    disqualified from that heat.

If more than two sailors cross the line early, there will be a general recall. The heat will be re-

run at a time announced by the Race Director.

Right of Way at the Race Marks

The competitor who has a clear lead approaching a mark has the

right of  way when jibing around a course mark, whether he is

the upwind or downwind sailor. A clear lead is defined lead of one

   board length or greater.

If the leading sailor is less than one board length ahead               of the trailing competitor, the downwind sailor (either leader or            trailer) has the right of way jibing around the course marker.

Filing a Protest

If a competitor feels that he has been fouled, he may file a protest with the Race Director. The fee for filing a protest is RD$200, and will only be refunded if he protest is upheld. The decision of the Race Director is final.

Classification

If the Race Director determines that a competitor is of too high a skill level to compete in the SPORT Category, that competitor will be required to enter the OPEN Category. Competitors wishing to enter the MINI JUNIOR Category (13 years old and under), as well as competitors wishing to enter the JUNIOR Category (17 years old and under) must supply proof of identification showing their age.
